RS9020EB Reconfigurable Navigation Receiver Platform

The RS9020EB is a development platform based on the RS9020 broadband GNS receiver front-end. The RS9020EB enables the reception of multiple satellite navigation systems in the frequency bands occupied by GPS, Galileo and Glonass navigation systems.

The RS9020EB incorporates all functionalities offered by the RS9020 to convert the navigation RF signal to the IF or baseband frequencies.  At the RF terminal a broadband passive balun, specified to operate in the frequency range between 1 GHz and 1.6 GHz, provides the matching between the antenna port and the RS9020.

The RS9020EB integrates a 16.368 MHz TCXO to generate the clock and reference signals. An option to apply an external reference frequency is also supported.                                                                                                                                   Download RS9020EB Product Brief

The RS9020EB provides a 12-bit analog to digital converter (ADC) for application that demand for high dynamic range GNS receivers. The RS9020EB is particularly attractive for applications that suffer from strong in-band jamming signals, where the internal 2-bit ADC does not offer sufficient dynamic range to accommodate the interference signals. A secondary benefit using high resolution ADCs is the reduction in the constraints of the automatic gain control circuit imposed by the 2-bit ADC.

Key Features

An important feature of the RS9020EB is the integrated programmable system on chip. It allows the configuration of the RS9020 navigation receiver front-end through the SPI interface and support for external automatic gain control. The interface with the host PC is accomplished through the USB interface.

The RS9020EB minimizes the complexity to analyse and verify the RS9020 receiver front-end and facilitates the development of applications based on the RS9020.

The summary of the key features of the RS9020EB are outlined below.

  •  Support for multiple navigation systems
  •  Programmable system on chip
    • Application development
    • Configuration of the RS9020
  •  Parallel and MAG/SIG interfaces
  •  2-bit (MAG/SIG) and 12-bit ADC
  •  Internal 16.368MHz TCXO
  • Internal voltage regulators
  • USB interface

Applications

The main applications of the RS9020EB navigation receiver are:

  • Navigation systems
  • SDR navigation systems
  • Wireless systems
  • Phase arrays

There are other possible applications for the RS9020EB navigation receiver platform that are not related to navigation systems. Since the RS9020EB has a high level of programmability and flexibility, the IC could be configured to alternative applications. In this case, an understanding of the customer specifications and requirements is needed.
